Legacy Planning Education Webinar

We are hosting a free Online Webinar Mar 18th on Legacy Wealth Planning.

Legacy Wealth Planning is the creation of a definitive plan for managing your total wealth while you’re alive, distributing your estate how you choose after your death, and a clear plan to pass on your legacy. Your estate includes all assets of any value that you own. This includes non-financial assets as well as financial assets, including real property, business interests, investments, insurance proceeds, retirement accounts and personal property. Your legacy incorporates important decisions ensuring your family core values, responsible behaviors and community involvement are passed on to future generations. Keep in mind, your legacy also includes personal effects, such as family heirlooms, stories, and accumulated wisdom and life lessons of your family.

We will show you how a solid, effective estate plan ensures that your hard-earned wealth will remain intact as it passes to your beneficiaries, instead of being siphoned off to government processes and bureaucrats.

In this online seminar, you will learn how to avoid common estate planning mistakes, as well as:

o  Whether you need a Will or Trust? Discover the advantages and disadvantages of both.

o  How the new SECURE Act has impacted inherited IRAs and the best strategies to minimize taxes to your heirs.

o  How to keep your affairs private and your loved ones out of court if you become disabled and can’t speak for yourself. (Hint: Not all Powers of Attorney are valid!)

o  All about probate and what steps can you take now to help your family avoid this expensive and time-consuming legal process when you’re gone.

o  If you will owe estate taxes, learn how to help your heirs minimize or even avoid “death” taxes after your passing.

o  How to create a long-term care plan before it’s needed so that you are able to stay as independent as possible and in complete control of your decisions as you age.

o  Why owning assets jointly or putting property in a child’s name is likely a huge mistake—and what to do instead to accomplish your goals in a secure way.

o  Easy strategies to protect your children’s inheritance from being seized if they get divorced, sued or file bankruptcy in the future.

o  How to preserve your estate for your children should you pass away and your surviving spouse gets remarried (without a plan, your family’s inheritance will legally go to the new husband or wife!).

o  How to qualify and use Medicaid to pay for nursing home expenses which can average $8,821 monthly.

o  How parents (and grandparents!) of children with special needs can plan for a lifetime of care without jeopardizing eligibility for important benefits like Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Another great article by Steve Harnett, Director of Education, American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, Inc. This one directly impacts my friends and family born in Puerto Rico. Please pay special attention!

Great advice from Steve Hartnett, Director of Education, American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. I would also add the need to have a Legal and Financial Durable Power of Attorney. Everyone over the age of 18 should have these documents.

This is a great resource in our community for those who have family members, young and old, who tend to wonder. Although the post is from Stafford county, this resource is also available in other counties/cities.
